The purpose of the Vision Tour is to introduce our ministries/church planting opportunities to potential partners and church plant team members. We are seeking limited and full partnerships for short or long-term commitments. We will provide food, lodging, and transportation during the tour. You are responsible for your transportation expenses to our location and back to yours. The tour starts at 6 PM April 26 and ends at 8 PM April 27. During the tour you will be introduced to our staff, strategy, and various ministry sites and visit with the missionaries working there. There is no obligation for attending.

At the Heart of Kansas Southern Baptist Association, our members are seeking to make disciples by helping each other to increase in health and by starting new, vibrant churches which are equipped to reach people groups and population segments with a high percentage of lostness. The key to both healthy existing churches and new vibrant churches can be found in the growing and recruiting of strong leaders and in cooperatively gathering resources to engage in healthy, reproductive ministry.

We are asking you, our sister churches, to enter this process with us. Together we can be more effective in the mentoring and training of effective leaders, resourcing healthy ministries and in starting vibrant churches. Perhaps you could be a mentor to a leader or may know someone that God could use to start a new church. Your church may be able to provide resources that will enable us to reach our community.

We only ask, as we enter this process, that you seek to discover what God is calling you to do in our area.

Thank you for your interest and time!

The Mission is an international student church that meets at Wichita State University.

The Mission is an international student church that meets at Wichita State University (WSU). They meet on Sundays at 4pm at Lindquist Hall on the Wichita state campus. There are students from over one hundred different countries at Wichita State University, everywhere from Albania to Zambia. If you want to reach the nations for Christ, all you need to do is drive to 17th and Hillside, and you’ll find a host of students that want to meet you!

Ways to Be Involved

Many students come to Wichita before they know English well enough to start classes at Wichita State. These students enroll in classes at WSU’s Intensive English Learning Center. Part of their coursework is a one and a half hour conversation class each Wednesday. During that time, students are divided into groups of two or three, to spend time practicing their English with an American volunteer. Groups are free to go wherever they would like, to help in facilitating the conversation. They are also welcome to keep in contact outside of class. Read this article about the conversation classes, and for information on how to volunteer.

Many international students come to the United States hoping to spend time in an American home, and get to know an American family. International Students Incorporated (ISI), trains American families on how to be good friendship families to these students, and then connects them to one another. These families invite students for meals, for family events, or for activities they regularly take part in, like going to church. They can also sign up to just host students for holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas. The Mission has a great relationship with ISI, and refers students to each other regularly.

Here in the Heart of Kansas, through the Danny Dirks Mission Strategy Funds we’ve been blessed to purchase a shower trailer, and a chainsaw trailer. This trailer will be used both locally and nationally as the need arises.

The Heart of Kansas vision is expanding to include more units and volunteers to fulfill the disaster relief mission.

Disaster relief is Christian love in action – meeting urgent needs in crisis situations by trained volunteers.

If you would like more information please feel free to email us at disasterrelief@hoksba.org.

Getting Involved

Where do I fit in?
All ministry gifts, talents and skills are needed.

What if I am not trained?
Training will be provided in the appropriate area of service at various times and locations.

Once trained, then what?
You will be placed on a calling list according to your gifts, talents, skills and training.

Will I always have to go?
Your availability will be taken into consideration prior to being asked to mobilize.

How long would I be gone?
Although each trip may differ, we like to ask that you be available 5-7 days.

Where can I get more information?
You may email us as at disasterrelief@hoksba.org.
