Sunday School for 2006
Sunday School: Jean Edwards
Sunday, January 1, 2006
The beginning of a New Year is a good time to look at where we are and to determine goals for the rest of the year. Sunday School is the evangelism arm of the church. We need to make plans for how we can reach out to others and include them in our Sunday School. Each class can begin praying for prospects if there are none known. Preschool and Children's teachers have an excellent opportunity to visit the homes of the children they teach to build relationships with parents. The parent of a child is often more open to a Sunday School teacher who is teaching their child than to the pastor.
We touch many lives as we go about our everyday tasks. Talking with people can give us the opening to share Christ and to invite them to go with us to church.
How inviting is your Sunday School for new people? Are people greeted at the door? Do Sunday School rooms invite people to come in and find a place? It's easy for people to drop off Bibles or books in a classroom. That can make it not very inviting to someone new. Do we talk about things that will include new people or make them feel that they are on the outside?
I hope that this will be a year of seeing each of our Sunday Schools grow and reach new people and disciple those God leads to become a part of our ministry.
Vacation Bible School 2006
I hope that your church has Vacation Bible School on your church calendar! This year we are going to the ARTIC EDGE: WHERE ADVENTURE MEETS COURAGE. It is based on Joshua 1:9.
Training this year will be on a different schedule. Most people have been attending the KNCSB Jumpstart Training in Salina. That training will be March 11 this year. Few have attended the Early Bird training for Directors in our association in recent years so it will not be offered this year. The Pastors training will be offered during the Minister's Tuesday lunch as it has been in the past. There will only be one Director and age level training in April.
I will be glad to help you. If you want another church to help you with your VBS, please call me at 683-3042. I would also be pleased to hear from any of our churches who would like to help another church in our association with a VBS. Several churches were able to have VBS last summer because another church helped with leadership. Vacation Bible School discovers many prospects for our churches. It would be a great opportunity to reach all of our ministry fields if every church had a Vacation Bible School this year.
We will have the stand up figure and the inflatables in the association office again this year. Let us hear from you as soon as you know your VBS dates. I seek to visit every VBS but I need to know when you are meeting. I'm looking forward to this being a great VBS year!
