Sunday School and Families
Sunday School: Jeane Edwards
Friday, May 20, 2005
The months of May and June have special days to celebrate. We have Mother's Day, Children's Day and Father's Day. I hope that your church is celebrating Children's Day so all the congregation is aware of your Children's Ministry. It's a great time to recognize all of those who work with the children not only in Sunday School but in the other ministries you have for children. The children are learning about families this month in Sunday School. They will have a new appreciation for how God plans for families.
Our Sunday Schools have a great opportunity to help parents and grandparents know ways to help children grow in the Lord. We need to remember that all of a child's learning is based on the spiritual foundations he is developing. Children learn what they live. They observe those around them and especially the parents who have the most influence during these years. Our quarterlies have suggestions for daily devotions to help parents carry through the teaching from Sunday. Of course, children are learning all day in the many events throughout the day. Sunday School is a great place for developing relationships. Out of those relationships can grow ministry opportunities. New Christians may need to learn new ways to relate with their children. Being in your Sunday School class gives them the opportunity to learn as they study the Word and then to see how more mature Christians put it into practice.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible Schools will begin the first week in June. It is exciting to know that a number of churches are having VBS for the very first time or the first time in several years. There is still time to plan one for July or August. Call if you are in need of help.
We have some of our local churches helping other churches in the association. Churches are also sharing decorations again this year. Please pray for the churches coming from Arkansas to help churches here. Some will be doing prayer walking, some will help with VBS, and some will help with follow-up the week after VBS. I'm looking forward to knowing the number of families that will be reached through VBS this summer.
Remember you can reserve the snow cone machine from the office. We also have the stand up figure and the gas station you can borrow.
I look forward to visiting your VBS. Call me (683-3042) so I know when your VBS will be held.
