Faithfulness is Rewarded

Tuesday, May 1, 2007

Our Sunday School Planning Team member, Janet Felber, has gone to her reward. We will miss her. She was one who wanted to see every Sunday School in the association reaching people for Christ and growing them in the Word. Her commitment to children was a blessing. The swiftness of her being here one minute and gone the next is a strong reminder that each of us needs to be faithful to what the Lord would have us do everyday.

What about your Sunday School class? How many of the people on your roll do not know Christ? Are you looking for people who need the Lord as you go about your everyday activities?

We are coming to that time of year when we will have special times to honor Mothers, Fathers, Children and those graduating. What are we doing through our Sunday Schools to encourage families and single parents in their task as parents? Children's Day is a great way to recognize those the Lord has called to minister to Preschool and Children's age Sunday School and other times of teaching with those children. Summer is coming. This is the time to be planning ways to reach out to children over the summer. Most of you will have Vacation Bible School. Think about having Back Yard Bible Clubs in members' back yards. That is a great way to reach some children and their families. At the end of the Back Yard Bible Club, encourage families to know that the same kind of teaching is available every Sunday morning. Have a special play day at church with various games and activities. You could have a Pet Day for children to bring a any small pet to show. Your Adult Sunday School class members could help with registration and refreshments to begin to build relationships with parents. You will be able to think of ways to reach children that fit your congregation.

Let's invest our Sunday Schools in ministry this summer.

Vacation Bible School

I hope that every one of our congregations will have a Vacation Bible School this summer. Remember that there are materials and a snow cone machine that you can check out of the association office. Sign up as soon as you know your dates! Please call me at 683-3042 to let me know your dates. I look forward to visiting your VBS briefly sometime during your week. It's a joy to see the children and leaders having a great time learning.

We still have a few churches that are in need of some help to have VBS this summer. Give me a call and I will share the opportunities for service with you. It has been good to hear that people are already working out how to share decorations with other churches after their VBS is over. All of us working together blesses the Kingdom.

I trust that you have included follow-up plans as you are preparing for VBS. We have the greatest potential for reaching our prospects when we go to their homes the very next week. The teaching the children have during VBS is great. Reaching new families is a long term gain for the Kingdom. Every family God places in our VBS is an opportunity we need to use to honor Him.

Pray for prospects and then visit to welcome them to be a regular part of you Sunday School.
