Steve Nerger

Steve serves as the Manager of Strategic Places in the Church Planting Group of the North American Mission Board. This new position will direct National Missionaries who are assigned to specific types of places such as Urban and Multihousing.

Steve's assignment also includes his national oversight of Rural and Bivocational church planting. In this capacity, Steve works with our state and associational partners to increase awareness and develop strategies for reaching the lost through church planting strategies and implementation.

Steve has been in ministry for almost 30 years. Before joining NAMB he served in Florida, first as a Minister of Missions for 4 years, and then pastoring a church that his family started in Pembroke Pines FL. He also worked with the Florida Baptist Convention from 1996-2004 to start English-speaking churches in the Miami/Dade County area. Steve led the Miami Baptist Association in their church planting efforts during their Strategic Focus City emphasis, and helped them start 54 churches in 21/2 years.

Steve has spent 9 years in church planting in Pennsylvania, and 14 years church planting in South Florida. These experiences have led him to write a booklet entitled "Stuff No One Told Me About Church Planting."

Steve was ordained in 1979 after serving four years in the Navy and four years attending college. He and his wife Janet have four children. Greg, Michael and Krista are grown, and have blessed them with six grandchildren. Their fourth child, Amberlee, is an energetic 4-year old.
