Leaning Forward in the Foxhole

Monday, November 28, 2005

As I look forward into 2006, I find myself "gazing" into a personal agenda calendar many of us refer to as our "day-timer", that little book (it comes in various sizes, colors, and layouts) or computer program that diligently helps us to focus on the future as we see it.

"As we see it . . ." hmmm! There in lies the rub. Not only are we looking to the future with eyes focused on what we have planned, most of us are not looking to God, the AUTHOR of the FUTURE we are trying so hard to control. A future that we take for granted, because we are busy DOING what we have convinced ourselves to be God's will.

Is it wrong to plan? No, we are admonished to "make the most" of the time we have (Matthew 25 - the parable of the talents). However, if we fail to seek the author of the future (Jeremiah 29:11 - God's plan for our future) in our planning, surely we are doomed to repeat the same mistakes we made yesterday. The future BELONGS to God.

Obedience to God and the future that He has planned is our task. Therefore, let us leave the comfort of our "foxholes", surrender anew to Him, and step into the future God has already ordained. God bless you as you lead and serve in 2006.
