Ethnic America Summit
Language Ministries: Georges Boujakly
Monday, April 25, 2005
I attended a Summit put on by the Billy Graham Association in Dallas recently. The purpose of the summit is to help those who work with ethnics and those who help those who work with ethnics. This is one conference I don't want to miss.
There were ethnic workers from dozens of nationalities. This time together reminded me that in God sees no differences that matter among his people from any nation. Allow me to highlight 3 touches of God on my heart during the summit.
- The first touch came through hearing church practitioners telling what God has been doing in their midst. I listened to three pastors as they told about the many nations who worship and serve God together in the same church. God is doing something in America the likes of which has not been seen. Ethnic churches reaching other ethnic people groups and becoming one church. These are taking to heart "love your neighbor as yourself." This spells out as Koreans and Hispanics and Middle Easterners and African Americans and White Americans loving and serving God in one church.
- Another touch was a multilingual experience of worship. I am comfortable in several languages and felt at home singing in different tongues. However, the person next to me knew only one language. I turned to him during worship one night and asked him, "Do you think you can worship in a multilingual church regularly?" It took him only a moment to answer, "Yes!" The Lord reminded me, "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." In heaven now and in the future untold numbers from all nations and tribes worship together before the throne of God and His Lamb. May it be on earth as it is in heaven!
- One last touch came when in a breakout session the leader pointed out hoe much Jesus desires our unity in the family of God. "May they be one as we are one!" In the bond of love of the Triune God we are one. In our devotion to his service we are one.
This prayer was on my lips continually during the summit: Lord, may we also be one in worship and service under one roof, one faith, one baptism, on Lord! If you are interested in making a multinational church a reality for you please call 1-800-984-9092.
