We have joined the National Homeless Coalition and participated in the candlelight service in front of the Wichita Public Library on April 2. There is a movement in Wichita to create a 24/7 shelter. Currently, the homeless that are lucky enough to get into a shelter at night are turned out early in the morning to walk the streets.
The weather is getting warmer but the need for backpacks and sleeping bags goes on. If you can donate any of these items, please contact Deborah Long at 204-9517.
We are planning a Memorial Day picnic for the homeless on May 29 at Heritage Park from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. No agency will be feeding the homeless that day. We need volunteers who can handle a set of BBQ tongs, serve drinks and share the love of Jesus with our guests. We often wind up serving several Wichita Police officers and they need to hear the gospel too. We are also in need of donations to help with this picnic - hamburgers, hotdogs, buns, potato salad and pies and cakes. Why not make this a mission project for your Sunday School class or Bible Study group? Please contact Deborah about donating.
