It does not seem possible that 2006 has arrived. We might as well get ready for 2007 because it is rushing toward us like a supersonic rocket. It seems change happens much faster now than at any time in history. I think that the computer has revolutionized our lives as much if not more than the invention of the automobile or airplane. Communication has become so instant that it is almost impossible to be away from the computer or cell phone for any length of time. We also have 24-hour news on TV blaring alerts to us constantly.
There are some things that never change, however. There are those permanent anchors in life that let us experience the rapid change with confidence and peace. The first anchor is Jesus Himself who went through a change larger than any man ever could. Another anchor is the Word of God that reveals the Son of God. Professor H. L. Wilmington, former Dean of Thomas Road Bible Institute said, "Perhaps the one supreme difference between man and all other creatures (apart of course from his immortal soul), is his God-given ability to reduce his thoughts onto paper." To think that God's divine words are preserved supernaturally for us ought to cause all Christians everywhere to rejoice in the fact that we have the sure knowledge of our future. What an anchor! That anchor, which is infallible and inerrant, lets us know our Savior personally and intimately. The third anchor that causes stability in my life is the church body. That is the place where we discover from each other and His Word what our part is in the Great Commission. It is a place where fellowship and commitment can be experienced. God is good and will continue to be so. We need to keep these anchors tied to our hearts.
Dr. Jim Barnett and Susan Wagle, candidates for Kansas Governor and Lt. Governor are scheduled to speak at the Minister's conference again on February 14, 2006 They will share their platform and their vision for Kansas as they run for election this fall.
An invitation has been sent to Governor Sebelius, but I have not yet received a reply at this time. I did talk to one of her office people who seemed open to the possibility.
