Gail and I have had the privilege for the last few weeks of ministering in the new Juvenile Detention Facility. We go in on Friday nights to show God's love through playing Christian focused games and providing home cooked snacks. All of these kids are so appreciative. Soon I will be on their chaplain list counseling these kids about Christ. This is a great opportunity to reach the hurting for Christ. There are many opportunities to serve at the JDF. Please contact me for information and to get involved.
Da Vinci Code
Last month I shared with you how important it is to be prepared to share our faith in light of this book and movie. Pastor Jerry Smith at Faith Baptist Church in Andover has taken the time to research all the resources that are available on the web concerning the Da Vinci Code. If you send Pastor Jerry an email at onefaith@sbcglobal.net he will send you the list he calls Da Vinci Code Links.
Mardi Gras
In February of this year, five of us from HOKSBA churches went to New Orleans to share the gospel during Mardi Gras. We worked with a group of forty-five believers from all over the country to hand out tracts and lead people to Christ.
It seemed to be a rougher crowd this year even though it was smaller. During our time there we saw over twenty-five people give their lives to Christ and we handed out over 45,000 tracts. The ministry we work with in New Orleans reported that they had several hundred responses by mail from the tracts we handed out. I tell you this to encourage you to start planning to go with us next year to the 2007 Mardi Gras. The seminary housing will be up and running and we should be able to take as many people as want to go. The debauchery and blasphemy we see at Mardi Gras is spreading around this country. That is the reason we need to have a large Christian presence at these events. We need to share our faith with those who are lost and headed for hell. Please contact me for more information on going and to sign up.
River Festival 2006
The Lord blessed us with perfect weather for the River Festival this year.
Thursday and Friday we spent all day sharing the gospel on the streets and leading people to Christ. We also handed out thousands of invitations for the Team Impact presentation on Saturday night. Saturday we had churches helping with music and sharing. Our youth helped supervise the use of the Moon Walk and other blow up toys and the WMU provided hot dogs for the churches and guests. A great time was had by all who participated and 130 people gave their life to Christ between the Team Impact events and the street witnessing. Praise God!!
We know of one who gave his life to Christ that evening and has already been baptized. Our churches are following up on all of the professions of faith. Please start praying and planning for next year's event. We need to start praying and prayer walking the streets of Wichita to prepare the soil for next year. If you have never participated in the River Festival Evangelism event, please pray about helping next year and I promise you will be blessed.
Justice for All
Several weeks ago at the Minister's conference, David Lee from Justice for All spoke to us about their unique ministry. The mission of JFA is to make abortion unthinkable for millions of college students. Their method is a larger than life outdoor photo exhibit strategically placed on college university campuses. Rimming the display are scores of high school and college students who have been trained to give an answer for their hope within, yet with gentleness and reverence. JFA goes to numerous campuses each year to create debate, change hearts and save lives. JFA is going to be on the WSU campus August 28-31. They will provide training for all who are interested on the 26th and 27th. One training session will be at WSU and the other possibly at a local church. Please contact JFA for details at www.jfaweb.org or 800-281-6426. What a great way to get involved in turning the tide on abortion and to be trained in a non confrontational way to share our views and faith.
