Future Plants:
Plans are being made for a church plant that will target young professional couples. This is an area that has been largely untouched by Southern Baptists. If this is of interest to you please contact Mark Jackson at 214-3647.
We are planning on starting English As a Second Language classes in Northwest Wichita. Four instructors would give us classes for all skill appropriate levels. The ESL classes will lead to relationships being formed and opportunities to present the gospel. Our hopes are that a church would be started from this. Please contact Mark Jackson, 214-3647 if you have an interest in this activity or have questions.
A Cowboy Church is in the dream stage.
There are an additional fourteen locations identified for ethnic and Anglo churches in both Wichita and in surrounding communities.
Existing Plants:
Ethnic
Spirit of Peace, a black church, has started meeting in the Cedar Point church building with a 1 pm Sunday school and 3 pm Worship service on Sunday afternoons. Cedar Point is the sponsoring church. Contact Reverend William Jones 258-2554 for more information.
The Mission, an international church at Wichita State University, is meeting on the WSU campus at 4 pm on Sundays. They are now excitedly involved in welcoming new students. Please be in prayer for their work. For more information, contact Vicki Timmons, 943-3446.
A new Hispanic work is starting in the Planeview area. Midway Baptist and Sharon Baptist churches sponsor this work. We are currently remodeling a duplex into a Hispanic Community Center. A soccer camp for the children was held the week of June 12. Bible studies will soon follow. Contact: Bill Wadsack, 393-2792.
Anglo
The Vintage Fellowship Church began meeting in April. They are starting community groups. Their target group is younger couples looking for a non-traditional church experience. Contact Wayne Trimmell at 721-4460 for more information. The Journey in Newton is sponsoring this new work.
New Beginnings, Goddard: Church planter John Barnett is planning for a public launch in the Fall 2006. Cedar Point Baptist Church is going to be helping in the worship area but more workers and core team members are needed. Contact John Barnett, 259-4100, for more information.
Shalom Adonai: Services are held at 1203 S. Broadway. On Saturday, worship starts at 10 am followed by a lunch and community building activities. Tuesday evening at 7 pm a David Dance class is offered. On Wednesday night at 6:30 pm, a Torah and Bible study is conducted along with youth activities.
New Life Community Baptist: Services are held Sunday morning at 9:15 am. Aaron Fenalson is serving as interim pastor.
A core team is being formed to start a work in Kechi. About twelve people are committed and several additional couples are considering involvement. Prayer walks have started in the community. They are planning for a Fall 2006 launch. Sharon Baptist Church is a sponsor of this work and we are looking for additional sponsors. Contact: Lad Dwyer, 733-0227.
A new work is underway at the Midtown Good Neighbor Center. The church will probably meet on a Sunday afternoon, which would allow you to continue serving at your home church. A church planting team is forming. Contact: Richard Simmons, 207-8216.
Pleasantview Baptist Church, in Derby, is in the initial planning stages of a church plant in the Derby area.
