There is a new church in Town! The Vintage Fellowship Church began meeting in April at Christian Dimension Coffeehouse. Their worship gathering is at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday nights. The worship style is contemporary. They are planning to start community groups soon. Contact Wayne Trimmell at 721-4460 for more information. The Journey in Newton is sponsoring this new work.
Existing Plants:
New Beginnings, Goddard: Church planter John Barnett is planning for a public launch in the fall of 2006. Dennis Burns, pastor at Cedar Point Baptist Church has indicated a desire to support this activity with workers. More workers and core team members are needed. Shalom Adonai: This work is meeting in the building that is now owned by Iglesia Bautista Getsemani. Attendance has been hovering around twenty-five to thirty.
New Life Community Baptist: This work is meeting in the same building that is now owned by Iglesia Bautista Getsemani. They are now searching for a pastor.
The Mission, an international church at Wichita State University, has been meeting for several months now and has recently held their first baptism service. Karl Timmons is now serving as the group's Spiritual Director. Brad Simmons continues to minister to the students during the day and provide leadership in support of Karl. Vicki Timmons is serving as mentor to the women and in leadership.
New Plants
A core team is being formed to start a work in Kechi. Two couples are committed and three additional couples are considering involvement. They are planning for a fall, 2006 launch. They are also developing sponsorship. Contact: Lad Dwyer, 733-0227.
A new work has started meeting at the Midtown Good Neighbor Center. Three noon Bible studies are held during the week and a Sunday afternoon church service is being planned. They have had several salvation decisions. One young man died just eight days after his decision. Contact: Richard Simmons, 207-8216.
A new Hispanic work is starting in the Planeview area. Midway Baptist and Sharon Baptist churches sponsor this work. We are currently remodeling a duplex into a Hispanic Community Center. A soccer camp for the children was held the week of June 12. Bible studies will soon follow. Contact: Bill Wadsack, 3932792.
Future Plants
Pleasant View Baptist Church, in Derby, has contacted me through their missions committee to assist them in planting a church. We will soon have our first meeting.
A Cowboy Church, a church geared for professionals, is under consideration as well as a church that is contextualized to professionals.
Future Activities
We will host a church planter training on July 21-22, 2006. So far I have recruits for Hispanic and Anglo works. We will also welcome students from other backgrounds. Dr. Rod Harrison, Midwestern Nehemiah Professor, and Tim Pruitt, DOM in Gila Valley, Arizona will be the lead instructors.
