Christmas in August: How YOU Can Help

Thursday, November 1, 2007

Christmas in August is a ministry of the Oaklawn Baptist Good Neighbor Center. It is an event that supplies needy families with the "fixins? for a Christmas dinner, one new present for"each family member, and the love of God.

The gift is inexpensive, a cost of about $5, and is usually something like a hat, gloves, socks, underwear, cologne, or some small gift. They try to supply a gift that matches a need.

The dinner includes a meat item, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, a sack of flour and sugar, bread, etc. We will have a menu for these items a little later in the year.

They start identifying needy families in August and will continue through November.

The families are invited to the Good Neighbor Center for a time of worship and fellowship, a gospel presentation, and the distribution of the gifts and food.

Here is how you can help:

  1. Commit to adopt a family or two and let us know.Contact: Bill Wadsack, 393-2792
  2. Begin gathering the food items and gifts (this could be a mission project for an individual or a small group?children and adult).
  3. Bring the items to the Good Neighbor Center in early December.
  4. (Optional) attend the special service with your adopted family and get to know them.

This could be an event that would capture the interest of young people in your church. Young people like to be involved in missions.

Bill has had as many as 80 families at this event and they probably could discover more if there is enough support for this event.

God Bless you as you consider your involvement.
