The new semester is underway at Wichita State and that means new students are here as well. Part of our ministry at WSU is to pick international students up from the airport as they arrive in Wichita for the first time. This semester students from The Mission, the international student church at WSU, picked up nearly 40 students from many different countries. I personally picked up 8 students from Zambia, Nepal and Sri Lanka. After picking the students up, we often spend most of the rest of the day with them walking them through procedures at WSU and taking them to get groceries or other necessities.
Because of this act of service, many of these students have been attending our Sunday service and our small groups. On the first Sunday service of the semester we had 73 students, most of whom had only been in the country for a couple of weeks. Many of these students have shown an interest in Christianity and understanding why we are serving them the way we are.
On February 10th, The Mission held its third annual Valentine's event. This year's show included music, drama and a message delivered by Karl Timmons. Around 350 students and guests attended and heard the gospel. The drama told a story of sacrificial love, which led into a message about the sacrificial love of Jesus. We're excited about those who heard for the first time and look forward to seeing the fruit God brings from this.
