A Very Special Mother's Day

Saturday, July 1, 2006

All Mother's Days are special. But this past Mother's Day was one of the most memorable. On this Mother's Day, The Mission, the international student church at Wichita State, baptized five students. These students had been Christians from two years to two weeks. They were from opposite sides of the world in Africa and Asia. However, they came together, along with fifty witnesses, to profess their faith and commitment to Jesus Christ.

Furaha, a young lady from Burundi, was raised as a Muslim. She had prayed five times a day for the healing of her sister but it never came. Then a Christian woman came and prayed for her, and she was healed. Furaha wanted to meet this God who healed her sister, and now she has.

Shu Guan, a young man from Malaysia, had been curious about Christianity since he was young. His parents had a Bible in their home, which he read. However, they took it away from him and put it on a high shelf. When he left for college he took that Bible with him and continued to read it. After a friend of his had an encounter with God that changed his life, Shu Guan began to seek out believers at Wichita State. That is how he found The Mission, and how he found God. It is such a blessing to see how God works to bring these students to him, through so many different means.

One of the main ways The Mission makes contact with students is by picking them up at the airport when they arrive in the United States for the first time. This fall we will be busy picking up students and taking them to their new dorm room, the grocery store, and showing them around Wichita. We do all this to bring glory to God and show them His love. Please be in prayer for The Mission during this time in August.
