At the HOK annual meeting this year, we adopted a mission statement that calls the pastors and churches of HOK to partnership in the work of making disciples for the glory of God. The first and most important strategy in any such spiritual endeavor is to call upon the Lord for help.
The initial Southern Baptist response in Haiti is focusing on medical care. Southern Baptists at home are asked to begin filling “Buckets of Hope.”
That was the theme of our Heart of Kansas Southern Baptist Associational Annual Meeting in 2009. As we come to the end of 2009, how would that question be answered?
This next year promises to be a financially challenging one for many of our families. Have you considered a local mission trip to avoid travel and motel costs?
For the last several years, the Heart of Kansas has used summer interns to help existing churches, and church plants serve their communities and share the Gospel. In 2010, we are looking for students to continue this strategy. We are recruiting students for four teams.
It is time to mark your calendars and make plans to participate in the 2010 River Fest outreach. Our outreach will be from May 13th to 15th. We will have street evangelists here to work with you and to help train our church members.
The first strategy of HOK churches must be prayer. Our mission is a spiritual mission which requires spiritual power. We do not battle flesh and blood, but spiritual forces. Ephesians 6:12 affirms for us that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
Our mission as an association of churches will only be accomplished in proportion to the effort given in prayer. To think that we can experience success in the spiritual realm without the power of God that comes in response to the prayers of His people is both presumptuous and foolish.
Please join us in this ministry of prayer by joining our prayer team.
Our vision is to see churches developing and implementing strategies which result in the health and growth of existing churches, and doing this in association with one another.
Healthy churches will continue to reach people and make disciples for Christ.
The church planting process involves the selection of sites and people groups/population segments, the recruitment of capable, high potential church plant team members, partnerships with local and out-of-area churches, support in developing a financial base, mentoring/training, and mission teams and summer missionaries to reach the community.
Working together is one of our strategies.
There are over fifty churches in the Heart of Kansas. These churches partner together in many ongoing ministries, and special projects. If you would like to know how you, or your church could participate more in one of these ministries please read about them below, or call our office.
In May 2009, nine pastors took a trip to Winnipeg, Canada. On that trip these pastors were confronted with the need for more churches in Winnipeg. These pastors came back with the vision to work together with other Heart of Kansas churches, to help the churches in Winnipeg grow, and plant more much needed churches.
At the 2010 HOKSBA Annual Meeting, the association voted to officially partner with Winnipeg, and intentionally work together to grow the Kingdom of God in Winnipeg. Below you will find information on current plans for trips to Winnipeg, as well as general information about what the needs are there.
Over the last five years, many churches and associations have come to the Heart of Kansas in an effort to help our churches, and new church plants, more effectively serve their communities. We have also had High School and College students come and work during the summers in our Summer Intern Program.
Below you can read about the great blessing these teams have been, as well as information on future mission teams coming to the Heart of Kansas. You can also read about the 2010 Vision Tour, which is a great opportunity for your church to learn about the work going on in the Heart of Kansas, and whether God would have you partner with us. You can also check out information on our Summer Intern Program for College Students.
